Hearth and Hill Ski Club History

The Hearth and Hill ski club was formed in the late 60’s. Several former Jug and Mug married couples decided to form a married version of the club. After some discussion a new club was started and ski trips were organized to ski at Thunder and Boyne Mountain . Over the years the club has grown to 60 plus members.  Potential Hearth and Hill members learn about the club through word of mouth, as there is no advertising by the club. Hearth and Hill membership is not limited to married people or to just former Jug and Mug members. Most current members left the Jug and Mug in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. A few single Hearth and Hill members now maintain dual membership in both clubs.

The activities of the Hearth and Hill include informal ski trips, trips to Michigan casinos, trips to Canada and Chicago , ball games, festivals, concerts, theatre, tailgates, dining out, hayrides, house parties, card parties, and many of the same things that they used to do in the Jug and Mug.

Some of the Hearth and Hill members own or rent homes in Florida for the winter. They have formed a sub-group of the Hearth and Hill and periodically get together during the winter in Florida .

The Hearth and Hill is a way for Jug and Mug members who have formed lasting friendships in the club to continue those friendships for many years to come.

The Hearth and Hill is creating a web site for our members to keep track of upcoming activities. We are also publishing photographs of current outings and old Jug and Mug activities of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s on the web site. Please visit the site at hearthandhill.com. It is still a little rough around the edges but it will be cleaned up over the next few months.
